Cancun, Riviera Maya, and Playa del Carmen Reopen for Group Travel
A Sun-Kissed Paradise Reopens its Welcoming Doors
This is a PSA: Cancun, Riviera Maya, and Playa del Carmen are reopening for group travel on June 10th! Let’s get those sandals and sunglasses ready to go because the coastal Mexico gem has officially received the World Travel & Tourism Council’s International Safe Travels Stamp after months of COVID-19 quarantining and closures. The first region to obtain this crucial designation, Quintana Roo and its accompanying cities have updated their health measures to mirror the World Health Organization’s newly approved guidelines for safe group travel. With a plethora of hotel chains planning to reopen this week, resorts have diligently prepared for the arrival of travel groups once again.
Implementing safety protocols such as contactless check-ins, consistent sanitation of high-contact areas (doorknobs, furniture, lounge chairs), and improved food and beverage handling methods, properties such as Palace Resorts and RIU Hotels and Resorts are dedicated to delivering a safe luxury getaway. Mirroring the Hotel Zone and the gold coast of Riviera Maya, downtown Cancun is also slowly returning to form as nightclubs and world-class restaurants begin to adopt similar procedures, encouraging strict adherence to social distancing practices and low-contact service. The world is inching closer to reopening its doors to neighbors and group travel, making Cancun’s resurgence more important than ever during our new age of COVID-19 group travel.
